After winning over audiences in six cities, the Formula 1 Exhibition is landing in Oberhausen, in the heart of the Ruhr, to offer German fans and visitors from abroad a spectacular journey through the history of motorsport. The exhibition, which will open its doors on October 22, 2025, celebrates Germany’s legacy in Formula 1 with exclusive content, multimedia installations, and a hall dedicated to great champions such as Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, and Nico Rosberg, who have written important chapters in this sport.
Germany chosen for its legacy
Part of Germany’s former industrial heartland, the Ruhr, Oberhausen is one of the cultural hotspots of a region renowned for its industrial monuments, festivals, museums, and theaters. Speaking about the new venues, Emily Prazer, Chief Commercial Officer of Formula 1, emphasized that Germany was chosen for its legacy, which includes the successes of Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel as well as the memorable races at the Nürburgring and Hockenheimring.
“We are thrilled to bring the F1 Exhibition to Germany. Since our first exhibition in Madrid, the Formula 1 Exhibition has been highly successful in presenting the history of Formula 1. Germany as a country is an integral part of this sport’s story, with iconic circuits like the Nürburgring and great champions such as Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel, whose legacy is still felt today. We cannot wait for fans in Germany to immerse themselves in Formula 1 and get to know the sport they love even better.”
Reflecting on the announcement, Jonathan Linden, co-CEO of Round Room Live and producer of The Formula 1 Exhibition, said:
“We are delighted to announce Oberhausen as the next stop on the European tour of our exhibition. Germany has a long racing tradition and a significant influence on the world of Formula 1, with exceptional drivers and legendary tracks.”
Speaking on behalf of FKP Scorpio Entertainment, Folkert Koopmans stated:
“It is fantastic to be able to announce the next flagship exhibition at OBEX, right after The Last Days of Pompeii. Formula 1 The Exhibition offers everything you could want: the best sporting memorabilia, fascinating technology, outstanding collaborators, dramatic events, and so many exciting stories — all brought to life in a unique way in this exhibition.”
What does the F1 Exhibition offer fans?
The exhibition begins with a hall titled “Once Upon a Time in Formula 1.” It includes a gallery of unpublished photos, footage, artifacts, and numerous interviews with the most famous personalities of the sport, guiding visitors through some of the most popular and defining moments in Formula 1 history.
The Design Lab provides an overview of the development of a Formula 1 race car and shows how teams design and produce various new components for their machines. This is followed by the Drivers and Duels hall, which celebrates the most legendary drivers and the most memorable moments since the start of Formula 1 in 1950.
The next hall is an expansion of the Design Lab that offers fans an experience in the space called “Revolution By Design,” where innovation and ingenuity, technical progress, groundbreaking projects, and the unique power of Formula 1 take center stage.
Afterwards, the section called Survival focuses on Romain Grosjean’s dramatic crash in Bahrain in 2020, with the remains of his Haas car and a video installation with never-before-seen interviews.
The exhibition ends with a spectacular finale: Pit Wall, an immersive multimedia experience that brings back to life the greatest and most thrilling moments in Formula 1 history.
In addition, fans will be able to enjoy a hall dedicated to Germany, which celebrates the country’s profound influence on Formula 1. This special area will highlight Formula 1 icons, the iconic moments of the Nürburgring and Hockenheimring circuits, pay tribute to the most powerful constructors such as the Mercedes team, and honor the German drivers who have changed this sport, such as Ralf Schumacher and Nico Hülkenberg, along with former world champions Michael Schumacher, Nico Rosberg, and Sebastian Vettel. The exhibition will also celebrate the German women of Formula 1, an important step in a sport that still proves to be too male-dominated.
