Christian Nimmervoll’s analysis for the German website Motorsport Total raises a series of disturbing points. The popular editorialist from the German magazine stated:
“If I were in Fred Vasseur’s shoes, I would be deeply troubled to see how some of the most significant members of the Ferrari orchestra seem to lose their melody and seek a way out. Mattia Binotto’s dual role as team principal and technical director may have created an excessive workload. Surely John Elkann would have had valid reasons to replace him, reasons that we are not privy to in detail. However, what cannot be ignored is the fact that Ferrari’s growth direction under Mattia Binotto’s guidance seems to have reversed.” – the Formula 1 journalist explained.
Mattia Binotto more beloved than Frederic Vasseur
Christian Nimmervoll speaks of a negative atmosphere within Maranello: “The biggest concern lies in the fact that Mattia Binotto, who had been for many in Maranello (although not for everyone), was seen as a ‘traveling companion,’ being an ex-engineer himself. There are rumors that there is a contingent of technicians who would have preferred to remain under his wing and now find themselves at odds with the idea of working under Fred Vasseur’s direction. Laurent Mekies, a competent and respected individual with a resume that includes experiences at Minardi and Toro Rosso, as well as a career at the FIA, serves as another significant example. If Laurent Mekies had not answered Ferrari’s call in 2018 to become the sporting director, he might be the new Charlie Whiting today. But in my opinion, the most disturbing issue is the possibility that the two most fundamental members of the team, the drivers who literally have to carry the work of hundreds of colleagues forward, may have doubts about the leadership.” – Christian Nimmervoll pointed out.
