Scuderia Ferrari is now very confident in keeping Sebastian Vettel with the Maranello team even after the 2017 Formula One championship, as the perfect start of the season will most likely convince the German driver to continue. That is the view of Formula 1 legend Gerhard Berger, who before the beginning of the championship warned that Sebastian Vettel might consider a move at the end of the season if Scuderia Ferrari could not provide a much more competitive car than last year:
“With Ferrari performing, there is no reason for him to not stay.” – Gerhard Berger said, as quoted by the online version of the Italian national sports newspaper Corriere dello Sport. The four-time Formula One world champion has managed to score two wins from the first three rounds of the season, thus launching a clear message to Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton, who were seen as strong favourites for the titles: “Of course, if there is a stretch where he doesn’t win any races, there will be enormous pressure. But it looks at the moment that they are on the right track. I cannot imagine anything changing.” – the former Scuderia Ferrari and McLaren driver added, as reported by Corriere dello Sport.
Sebastian Vettel’s start at the 2017 Bahrain Grand Prix and his restart, after the Saftey car came back in, showed exactly the kind of talent that we have been missing in Formula 1 over the past few years. Sakhir was the German driver’s second victory in three races and Vettel is now chasing his fifth F1 world title and is seven points ahead of three-time champion Lewis Hamilton in the drivers’ standings, while Scuderia Ferrari is three points in front of Mercedes in the Constructors’ race, in the hope that things will continue in the same way during the next part of the season and soon we will be able to celebrate the official announcement of Sebastian Vettel’s new contract with the Maranello team.
