Green flag, the session resumes. Max Verstappen moves to the top with a time of 1.15.495, nearly a second faster than Pierre Gasly. Fernando Alonso sets the fastest time on hard tires, moving to the top with a 1.14.870, while both Ferrari SF-24 cars and Sergio Perez are engaged in a long run on medium tires.
Norris climbs to third, with Magnussen just behind him. Fernando Alonso improves further, shaving another 4 tenths off his time with a 1.14.445. Daniel Ricciardo moves to second, 3 tenths behind with a tire advantage.
Last 30 minutes
Max Verstappen now switches to race simulation mode, setting a lap time of 1.18.7. Logan Sargeant sets the fastest time with a 1.14.355 on soft tires, while Carlos Sainz moves to third, a tenth off the lead. George Russell now leads with a 1.14.279, also on soft tires.
Albon clocks in at 1.13.975, two tenths ahead of the Mercedes driver. Leclerc completes his lap, moving to the top with a 1.13.581. Hamilton puts in a great lap, beating Charles Leclerc’s time by 117 thousandths, while Lando Norris is only 11 thousandths behind.

Sainz improves but only manages eighth place, half a second behind Lewis Hamilton. It’s a 1-2 for Mercedes now, with George Russell setting a 1.13.274, almost two tenths ahead of his teammate. Alex Albon hits the Wall of Champions, damaging his front right suspension.
A fierce battle between the two Mercedes sees Lewis Hamilton set a time of 1.12.549, seven tenths ahead of everyone. Charles Leclerc climbs to fifth, but eight tenths off the lead, similar to Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri. Red Bull’s Dutchman improves and moves to second, but still six tenths behind.
Oscar Piastri also improves, now third, just 8 thousandths ahead of George Russell. The British driver completes the Mercedes one-two, with Stroll surprisingly in third. Max Verstappen slots between the two Mercedes, while Ferrari struggles, as noted by Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc over the team radio at the end of the final free practice session for the 2024 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix.
