In the various presentations made by the media for the new Ferrari team principal and general manager, Frederic Vasseur, has been underlined several times that the French manager believes in the idea of clear hierarchies among the team’s drivers.
Taking into consideration the results of the 2022 Formula One season and especially his previous time working together with Charles Leclerc at Sauber back in 2018, it is natural to think of the Monegasque as a future reference figure for the Italian team. An approach that would go against the trend of what Mattia Binotto opted for in his experience at the top of the Ferrari Racing Division, choosing to guarantee equal conditions for Charles Leclerc when he first joined the team alongside four-time Formula 1 champion Sebastian Vettel and then for Carlos Sainz when he replaced the German driver in Maranello.
This scenario, as expected, prompted the Spanish press to warn Carlos Sainz:
“He must start thinking more about himself, if he doesn’t want to dissolve like a sugar cube in Ferrari”, Marca underlined, adding: “With the departure of Mattia Binotto, the adaptation time has run out for Carlos. He will be a sort of tightrope walker without a safety net, and mental preparation will therefore be essential. He is called upon to turn the situation around right from the first test session and especially in the first qualifying sessions of the year. Carlos will have to more selfish, thinking of himself, otherwise he will be forced to take on the role of second driver” – the Spanish media pointed out.

On the other hand, French nationwide daily newspaper L’Equipe focused on the “strong personalities” of the two drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, but also on the good relationship that Fred Vasseur would have with people close to the Spaniard:
“We can imagine that the ‘Sainz family’, above all the influential father, is not so happy with the Frenchman’s arrival in Maranello” – observed the journalist Frederic Ferret, continuing with a reassurance: “But relations between the Spanish entourage and Fred Vasseur are excellent. The first contacts were made back in 2016 at the time of Renault, when the management of the French team preferred to sign paying driver Jolyon Palmer, with Carlos Sainz replacing him one year later, after leaving the Red Bull program.” – L’Equipe concluded.
