Interviewed by Sky Sport Italy a few days ago following the cancellation of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which was scheduled to take place at the 4.909-kilometre Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, commonly known as Imola, Scuderia Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur spoke about the Italian side’s contract renewals, emphasizing that the management of the Prancing Horse has not yet addressed the subject with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
The Monegasque driver and the Spaniard have contracts which are currently available until the end of the 2024 Formula 1 championship.
Despite the many rumors circulating in recent weeks, involving both drivers of the Maranello team (Carlos Sainz being linked to Audi starting from 2026 and Charles Leclerc to Mercedes in the near future), the Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal wanted to reassure the Ferrari fans, stating that any discussion on this matter will only be initiated after the summer break:
“We will evaluate what to do during the summer break,” – the Frenchman replied, when asked by Sky Sport Italy about the contract extensions of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
Until then, Scuderia Ferrari will mainly focus on the SF-23 single-seater and try to improve the fortunes of a championship that has started quietly and is clearly far from the performances shown by Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez in the Red Bull RB19 cars.
