Contract extension for Charles Leclerc
Just over a month before the start of the 2024 season, the most awaited announcement by Ferrari fans has arrived: Charles Leclerc has indeed renewed his contract with Scuderia Ferrari. The agreement would have expired at the end of this championship, and the Monegasque driver has put his signature on a “multi-year” extension, the official expiry date of which has not been disclosed.
Certainly, an important role in the confirmation of the renewal was played by the team principal of Maranello, Frederic Vasseur, who had Charles Leclerc under his ‘care’ during the Monegasque’s debut year in F1. At that time – it was 2018 – both were part of Sauber. Now, time has passed, and expectations have risen. Charles Leclerc’s dream is to become a champion with Ferrari sooner or later, and Fred Vasseur’s task is to make this feat possible, something the most decorated team in Formula 1 history has not achieved for 17 years.
“Charles’ connection with the Scuderia goes beyond that of a driver with his team – explained Fred Vasseur, commenting on the renewal of his protegé – Leclerc has been part of the Ferrari family for eight years, even before he wore the suit with the Prancing Horse. The DNA of our company, as well as its values, is a part of him, and it was therefore natural to agree on renewing our collaboration. We know of his incessant desire to surpass his own limits, and we appreciate his great abilities to duel and make overtakes in races.” – the French manager pointed out.
Finally, a promise: “We are determined to give Charles a winning car, and I know that his decision and commitment will be elements that can make a difference for the goals we want to achieve.” – Scuderia Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur concluded.
