A long-awaited renewal
When Ferrari let it be known that they were not interested in Christian Horner following his departure from Red Bull Racing, it became clear that the Maranello team intended to renew with Frederic Vasseur. It is certainly unusual to reach the end of July with a team principal’s contract expiring in December, but both sides appeared confident about continuing together despite the rumors from a few months ago. The official confirmation then arrived on July 31, when John Elkann and Benedetto Vigna once again decided to back Vasseur with a new multi-year contract.
Time is needed
It is no secret that both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton have repeatedly expressed their desire to continue working with Frederic Vasseur, a detail that undoubtedly played a role in the decision, far beyond the on-track results—hampered by a surprisingly dominant McLaren. Speaking to Canal Plus, Vasseur commented on the contract extension: “It’s good news, it’s about continuity. I think in our work it is very important to have stability. We are in an environment where people want to be very agile, but in reality, there is a lot of inertia. We have been building the team for two years, but some people joined only a few months ago.”
Frederic Vasseur then defended his work: “I think, overall, we are making progress. It’s not always visible because of the difference between us and McLaren. But at least we are second in the championship for the second consecutive year. I think we are making progress in terms of structure, reliability, pit stops, and many other aspects.” He concluded: “I think it is an important step. It allows everyone to focus on the end of the year and on the 2026 project, which is a huge project. I think it was the right moment to do it.”
