Ferrari has announced that Fred Vasseur will not be present in the Monte Carlo paddock today. The news came as a surprise to many in the Formula 1 paddock, although the Scuderia moved quickly to reassure fans and media regarding the condition of its French team principal.
“Following some medical examinations, Fred will remain under observation at a local healthcare facility,” Ferrari stated in an official communication. “No further medical information will be provided. We wish Fred a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back at the track soon.”
At this stage, Ferrari has not clarified whether Fred Vasseur’s absence will be limited to today alone or whether it could extend through the remainder of the Monaco Grand Prix weekend.
It is clear, however, that this was not a planned absence. Vasseur was present at the circuit throughout Friday’s programme and took part in all of the team’s scheduled activities, with no obvious signs suggesting any issues.
This is not the first time the Ferrari team principal has been forced to step away from trackside duties. During last year’s Austrian Grand Prix weekend, Vasseur left the Spielberg circuit overnight between Saturday and Sunday due to family-related reasons.
On that occasion, as will be the case this weekend, responsibility for leading the team will pass to Jerome D’Ambrosio, who serves as Ferrari’s deputy team principal. The Belgian will oversee operations trackside while Vasseur remains under observation.
Ferrari fans will now be hoping for positive news in the coming hours, with the Scuderia awaiting further updates on Vasseur’s condition as the Monaco Grand Prix weekend continues.
