At the end of Friday at the Austrian GP, Fred Vasseur commented on Ferrari’s performance, touching on both the updates and his future.
During the Austrian GP weekend, Ferrari introduced the first part of a planned update package, which — ahead of the new suspension expected in the near future — appears to have convinced Fred Vasseur and his team. At the Red Bull Ring, the SF-25 was fitted with a new floor that previews the rest of the developments coming in the next races. These are not major visual changes, but ones that should help Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton feel more at ease with the car.
Team Principal comments after the first free practice sessions
At the end of the first day of practice in Spielberg, Fred Vasseur shared his thoughts on the Ferrari updates, including a brief comment on his future. “Things went well with the new floor. Now we need to analyze the data carefully because FP1 was a bit chaotic due to Lewis’ gearbox issue, while we used FP2 more like a test session. The drivers’ feedback was positive nonetheless,” said the Team Principal.
“I hope and believe that McLaren ran with low fuel, as they usually do. We stuck to our usual weekend program. Charles made the most of the second free practice session and the pace was good. That’s what we’re focusing on, and we’ll make some adjustments since it’s the first time we’re running this floor. The gap to the others is due to fuel levels and engine mapping. We shouldn’t draw premature conclusions. We opted for different configurations on the two cars so we could compare and choose the best solution,” he added.
Before wrapping up, Fred Vasseur also made a comment on the situation within Ferrari and the tension surrounding his future. “We’re trying to stay focused on the work we have to do. When the race weekend comes, it’s crucial to function well as a team — and that’s what we’re doing. We’re focused and thinking only about the track. How do I sleep? Very well.”
