The first European event of the 2024 Formula 1 season takes place on the historic Imola circuit, located near the Santerno River. Last year, the river caused significant disruptions for the entire Imola community, leading to the cancellation of the 2023 edition. After a year, the premier series returns to the Enzo and Dino Ferrari track with a championship that promises to be extremely exciting. Among the key players will be Ferrari, with Fred Vasseur outlining the Maranello team’s expectations for the Imola weekend.
The team arrives at the first European event as the second force in the championship after Red Bull. However, McLaren showed extreme competitiveness in the Miami Grand Prix, taking the victory from Verstappen. This new challenge is something Ferrari aims to overcome with the introduction of a substantial update package that has radically changed the SF-24’s design. The 2024 car now features a new aerodynamic look, named the SF-24 EVO.
The Imola weekend will be crucial for understanding the championship’s trajectory and will allow Ferrari to determine the right development path. Frederic Vasseur expressed great confidence in these new updates debuting at Imola and believes strongly in the work done in Maranello and by the drivers on track.
“After many races far from home, we start the European season this weekend on the Imola circuit, the closest track to our Maranello headquarters, which also bears the name of our founder. We return to the classic format with three practice sessions, which is why we decided to bring the first update package for the SF-24 here.” – he pointed out.

This is a very important factor in understanding the effectiveness of the upgrades and confirming the positive impressions from last Friday’s 200 km Filming Day.
“We have a very intense weekend ahead as we will need to carefully evaluate all the new features while simultaneously working on qualifying and the race. We expect the competition to be very close as always. When the scenario is this tight, the correct setup of the car can be as crucial as the upgrades introduced. After last season’s cancellation, we are happy to race again at Imola in front of our fans. I’m sure they will fill the circuit: we are confident that we can be protagonists on the track, that we will be fighting at the front, and we hope to give them some reasons to cheer.”
