Fred Vasseur has defended Ferrari’s organisational structure after Lewis Hamilton raised the need for changes within the Maranello team. Speaking during Friday’s FIA press conference at Sepang, the Ferrari team principal said he had no complaints about the way the organisation operates and warned that pointing the finger at individuals would be a major mistake.
Lewis Hamilton raises questions over Ferrari’s structure
On Thursday at Sepang, Lewis Hamilton delivered a lengthy assessment of Ferrari’s current situation. The seven-time Formula 1 world champion’s comments attracted particular attention because, while expressing complete confidence in the work being done by Fred Vasseur, he also suggested that further structural changes may still be required within Ferrari.
Lewis Hamilton’s remarks therefore placed renewed attention on how responsibilities and decision-making are divided at Maranello. During Friday’s press conference, Fred Vasseur was asked directly to respond to what his driver had said.
Fred Vasseur defends Ferrari’s organisation
Fred Vasseur rejected the suggestion that Ferrari’s organisational structure itself is a problem and underlined his relationship with Ferrari chief executive Benedetto Vigna and chairman John Elkann.
“Honestly, I have a very good relationship with my bosses Benedetto and John,” Fred Vasseur said calmly. “We are in contact every day and I absolutely can’t complain about the organisation. Obviously, you always want to achieve more and do more, and you always want to hire more people. But that applies to me just as it does to everyone on the grid. But this has nothing to do with the organisation.”
For Fred Vasseur, therefore, Ferrari’s decision-making chain is not where responsibility should be placed. The French manager once again stressed the importance of collective responsibility at a time when questions have also been raised about authority within Ferrari’s Formula 1 structure.
“I think it would be a huge mistake to point the finger at something or someone,” Fred Vasseur continued. “In the good moments, we win as a team. In the bad moments, we suffer as a team. I don’t intend to talk about a single individual or anything else. It would be a huge mistake to start becoming divided.”
Fred Vasseur wants Ferrari to recover after two difficult races
Fred Vasseur then widened his assessment to Ferrari’s 2026 season, acknowledging that the team’s ambitions remain considerably higher despite what he described as a positive start to the campaign. His comments come as Ferrari continues to seek stability around its Formula 1 project, with the team principal also recently addressing the importance of maintaining calm within the team.
“We had a good start to the season. For sure, it isn’t enough and we want to achieve more, we want to win more and win the championship. But, at the end of the day, we had a positive start. In the last two races we have struggled, but hopefully we can get back on track soon thanks to the developments and rediscover our rhythm,” Fred Vasseur concluded.
