What is the real Ferrari SF-25? The one that won the Chinese GP Sprint with Lewis Hamilton, or the one that, in Hamilton’s hands the next day, could do no better than sixth place before being disqualified for excessive skid block wear? Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur has no doubts about the SF-25’s quality, as he reiterated in an interview with the French sports newspaper L’Équipe.
“I don’t need to be reassured by the Sprint Qualifying pole position and the Sprint victory,” said the head of Scuderia Ferrari. “I can clearly see that the car is not flawed, and the numbers prove it. To win, you have to get as close as possible to your full potential and the limit—whether it’s minimizing the car’s weight or optimizing braking by even a meter. In the last four races of 2024, we’ve had four different winners, each of whom lapped half the field, yet no one introduced upgrades. We were all extremely close, but small details make a huge difference, including track types and temperatures. At this point, it’s no longer about potential but about extracting that potential.”
Frédéric Vasseur also emphasized that Ferrari’s flash of brilliance in the Sprint win with Lewis Hamilton in China was striking: “A seven-second lead after a third of the race was perhaps the greatest display of dominance among the races held so far.”
