Ferrari heads to Miami with confidence
In two consecutive races (Australia and Azerbaijan), the Ferrari SF-23 single-seater has shown improvements and encouraging signs in terms of race pace. While there is still a lot of work to do for the Maranello team before being able to even hope of challenging Red Bull, Miami will be a very important test for the Ferrari car, which, according to team principal Frederic Vasseur, is now better understood in terms of setup and still has untapped potential.
In Miami, the first important updates will also arrive, after the Scuderia only introduced a new low-downforce rear wing in Baku. In the official Ferrari preview of the Miami Grand Prix, the French expressed his optimism in view of the first United States event this season.
Fred Vasseur’s words
“We are in the middle of a particularly busy part of the season with five races in six weeks from Baku to Barcelona and our work continues on track and in Maranello to develop our car package. Miami is yet another unusual track with all the idiosyncrasies of a street circuit, which both our drivers enjoy, so I’m confident we can make another step forward with the SF-23. The United States has historically been a very important market for Ferrari and the Scuderia has a strong fanbase here, which is a further incentive to keep pushing to close the performance gap to the championship leaders.” – Frederic Vassuer explained, as reported by the Maranello team’s official website.
What happened in 2022
The Miami track debuted in Formula 1 in 2022 and seemed very promising for Scuderia Ferrari, which monopolized the front row at the end of qualifying with Charles Leclerc ahead of Carlos Sainz. At the start of the Grand Prix, however, the Spanish driver did not get off to a great start, being overtaken by Max Verstappen at the first corner: the Dutchman then used the DRS and better race pace to overtake the Monegasque driver on the ninth lap, securing his third win in five races.
