Vasseur ahead of Silverstone: “The details will make the difference. We identified several areas for improvement in Austria”
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has previewed the upcoming British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Since taking charge of the Scuderia, the team’s best result at the historic circuit has been Lewis Hamilton’s fourth-place finish in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Ferrari aiming to bounce back at Silverstone
Ferrari’s performance at the Austrian Grand Prix fell well short of expectations. Arriving at the Red Bull Ring on the back of the team’s impressive victory in Barcelona, the Maranello outfit was unable to maintain that momentum and ultimately emerged as only the fourth-fastest team, finishing behind both Red Bull and McLaren.
On paper, Spielberg was always expected to be one of the most demanding venues for the SF-26, primarily because of the circuit’s heavy emphasis on power unit performance. While engine efficiency will also play an important role at Silverstone, the British Grand Prix presents a much more balanced technical challenge, with its combination of high-speed corners, fast direction changes and demanding aerodynamic sections placing greater emphasis on the overall package.
Ferrari has yet to secure a podium finish at Silverstone during Fred Vasseur’s tenure as team principal. The Scuderia’s most recent victory at the famous British circuit dates back to 2022, a race remembered not only for Carlos Sainz’s maiden Formula 1 win but also for the controversy surrounding the team’s race strategy under former team principal Mattia Binotto and Charles Leclerc.
Looking ahead to this weekend’s British Grand Prix, Fred Vasseur shared his thoughts on the challenge awaiting Ferrari.
Fred Vasseur previews the British Grand Prix
“Silverstone is one of the most iconic circuits on the calendar and represents a very different challenge compared to Austria. We come into this weekend after carefully analysing the race at Spielberg and identifying several areas where we can improve. We know the level of competition will once again be extremely high, and every single detail will make the difference.”
He added: “As usual with the Sprint format, we will have only one free practice session before moving into a competitive session, so it will be essential to get off to a strong start right from the beginning. For Lewis, this is a special race and we know he will receive tremendous support from the British fans. Silverstone always provides an incredible atmosphere, and we can’t wait to get out on track.”
