F1 | Ferrari shows competitiveness in FP1 at Monza
Fred Vasseur is rallying the team at Monza after the first practice session: can Ferrari realistically hope to secure a strong result this weekend? After leaving behind the disappointing outcome in the Netherlands, Vasseur’s Ferrari squad is aiming for redemption at the Italian Grand Prix. However, the Maranello-based team will start the weekend facing a challenge, as Lewis Hamilton must serve a grid penalty. This sanction, handed down last week in Zandvoort, continues to spark debate.
Despite this obstacle, Fred Vasseur is approaching the Italian weekend with optimism. “The mood is positive, even though we had a tough weekend in Zandvoort, but the overall atmosphere is good,” he stated during the press conference for team principals, which ScdueriaFans.com attended.
“We suffered a double DNF, but we leave Zandvoort with a positive mindset. Another encouraging factor is the incredible support here at Monza from the fans, who have been cheering for us all week, every day in front of the factory. This energy is exceptional.”
The first free practice session immediately smiled upon Ferrari, showing the car to be highly competitive. Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time, followed closely by Charles Leclerc. Third place went to Williams driver Carlos Sainz.
“With the experience I’ve gained this season and in previous years, I don’t want to draw any conclusions after FP1,” Fred Vasseur cautioned, fully aware that this is just the opening session of the weekend.
“We are hopeful, because last week we were able to relax a bit. There is still a long way to go from qualifying to the end of the race. We need to stay focused on ourselves, continue improving the car, get it into the right setup, and aim to achieve the best possible result. But we must not get too excited after FP1,” the Frenchman concluded during the press conference.
Ferrari is called upon to seek revenge after the disappointing result in Zandvoort, and they will need to do so here in Monza, in front of the passionate Italian fans.
