Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur has spoken about what it truly means to lead the Scuderia Ferrari in Formula 1, while openly admitting that the media did not make his contract renewal process any easier.
In recent weeks, various statements and speculation suggested that Fred Vasseur’s continuation with Ferrari was far from guaranteed. Despite this uncertainty, the leadership of the Maranello-based team chose to reaffirm their trust in the former Alfa Romeo boss, opting for stability and continuity. This approach is seen as vital ahead of the 2026 Formula 1 season, a year that will be pivotal for the Italian squad due to the major regulation changes and the introduction of a completely new technical cycle.
Fred Vasseur explains the importance of leading Ferrari
The renewal allows Ferrari to work with greater calm and focus as the season heads towards its conclusion, with the goal of at least securing second place in the Constructors’ Championship. Fred Vasseur is fully aware of what such a position entails and described the feeling of holding such a prestigious role.
“There is no role more exciting than mine in the paddock. At the same time, it exposes you in an incredible way to the judgment of others. In F1 everyone wants to win, but if you are at Ferrari it is something completely different. The passion that surrounds this team is incredible, even if sometimes you need a bit of calm to balance everything,” said the Scuderia Ferrari team principal in an interview with DAZN Spain.
Fred Vasseur also addressed how the media coverage had affected his renewal process: “As for my renewal, there were many rumours coming from the world of the press and this certainly did not do the team’s morale any good. Fortunately, it is water under the bridge and we can concentrate calmly on the end of the season.” – the French manager concluded.
