Red Bull has won an incredible 21 out of the last 22 Formula 1 races, securing all 11 victories so far in 2023. Their dominant performance has shattered historical records, such as McLaren’s 1988 achievement of 11 initial wins and Mercedes’ 19 first-place finishes out of 21 races in 2016. The Anglo-Austrian team seems to have found the perfect alchemy between Adrian Newey’s design department, Christian Horner’s management, the pit crew, and the drivers, with Max Verstappen appearing to grow stronger and more hungry with each race.
Toto Wolff’s remark
“The pace of Hamilton, as surprising as it may seem, was fast compared to the rest of the world. In the group of F2 cars, we can say he was fast, but there was an F1 car that won with a 34-second gap,” commented Toto Wolff after the Hungarian Grand Prix, referring to Max Verstappen’s performance, which according to the Austrian manager, “probably didn’t push to the limit for long parts of the race.” – the Mercedes boss pointed out.
While Max Verstappen often has to give his best to secure pole positions in qualifying, Red Bull’s RB19 extends its advantage over the competition during the race, allowing comfortable victories for its drivers.
Fred Vasseur’s reply
Ferrari’s team principal, Frederic Vasseur, responded to Toto Wolff’s remark with his usual wit: “Then let’s give him an F2 car, and we’ll see.” The French manager then compared Max Verstappen’s car dominance to Mercedes’ dominance in the recent past: “Red Bull is leading, but the feeling is the same as when Mercedes was winning until a couple of years ago. The most important thing is to stay focused on ourselves, try to do our best with what we have, minimize mistakes, and do a better job.” – the Frenchman explained.

Christian Horner pays no attention
With Max Verstappen leading the championship with a 110-point advantage over Sergio Perez and a substantial 142-point lead over the next closest driver, Fernando Alonso, Christian Horner can rest easy and not be provoked. The British manager is flying high: “If you look at how the team is working, everything is focused on the details. We are not leaving anything to chance. The strategy was excellent, and in the pit stop, we had a 1.9-second stop for Checo: you can see a team operating at a very high level. In Formula 1, there is no magic wand. Several factors must come together to achieve these kinds of results.” – the Red Bull boss explained.
