Ferrari is determined to leave the disappointment of the Austrian Grand Prix behind as Formula 1 heads to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix. After a difficult weekend at the Red Bull Ring, team principal Frédéric Vasseur says the Scuderia has carefully analysed what went wrong and is now focused on delivering a stronger performance at one of the most iconic circuits on the Formula 1 calendar.
Ferrari experienced the highs and lows of the 2026 season in the space of just one week. Lewis Hamilton’s brilliant victory in Barcelona was followed by one of the team’s most disappointing weekends of the year at Spielberg, where the Scuderia could manage only fifth and eighth place.
Attention now turns to Silverstone, the historic venue that hosted the very first Formula 1 World Championship race back in May 1950. For Ferrari, the British Grand Prix offers an immediate opportunity to prove that the struggles in Austria were nothing more than a temporary setback.
“We weren’t champions after Barcelona, and we’re not idiots now,” Frédéric Vasseur told Sky Sport F1 following last Sunday’s race, urging everyone to keep the team’s recent results in perspective.
It became clear during the Austrian Grand Prix that Ferrari’s race preparation had not produced the desired outcome. The setup chosen for the SF-26 made tyre management significantly more difficult for both drivers, ultimately compromising the team’s competitiveness throughout the weekend.
Since returning from Spielberg, Ferrari has carefully examined all the data collected at the Red Bull Ring to understand exactly where things went wrong and ensure the same mistakes are not repeated at Silverstone.
Vasseur confident Ferrari can respond at Silverstone
“Silverstone is one of the most iconic circuits on the calendar and presents a very different challenge compared to Austria. We arrive at this weekend after carefully analysing the Spielberg race and identifying several areas where we can improve,” Vasseur said in Ferrari’s official British Grand Prix preview.
“We know the level of competition will once again be extremely high, and every detail will make the difference. As always with the Sprint format, we’ll have only one free practice session before the first competitive session, so it will be essential to get everything right from the very beginning.”
After his victory in Barcelona, Lewis Hamilton heads into his home Grand Prix carrying high expectations. The seven-time Formula 1 world champion returns to Silverstone on the back of a series of impressive performances and will undoubtedly be highly motivated in front of his home crowd.
“This is a special race for Lewis, and we know he’ll receive incredible support from the British fans. Silverstone always delivers a fantastic atmosphere, and we’re looking forward to getting out on track,” Fred Vasseur concluded.
