French motor sport engineer and Alfa Romeo Racing’s Team Principal, Frédéric Vasseur, looks back at the Hungarian Grand Prix, admitting that the characteristics of the Hungaroring were not the most suitable for the C38, but Kimi Raikkonen’s experience and great driver led to another top ten finish:
“I wasn’t very optimistic for Budapest because I don’t think the layout is the best for us. But Kimi did a fantastic job in the race. I think it was a good step forward for us again. It’s a great feeling for the whole team before the break” – Frédéric Vasseur said, as reported by Motorsport-Total.com. Alfa Romeo Racing’s Team Principal is already focused on the second part of the 2019 Formula One season, pinpointing the team’s main goal after the summer break: “I hope we can fight against McLaren in the second half of the season. We have to be consistant. We have to try to score points for both cars every weekend.” – he explained – “I think we can be optimistic. If you look at Barcelona, then we were far away. Since this phase of the season we’ve constantly improved. We’re pushing hard to get updates, and we have to continue like this in the last part of the season.”
The upcoming races in Belgium and Italy could be a good track thanks to the powerful Ferrari engine, but at the same time Frédéric Vasseur warns: “It’s also about the aero package. I think we’ll fight back again in Singapore, on normal tracks.” In Belgium and Italy, efficiency and top speed count more than downforce, but the team is cautious: “Actually, it should be 2 good tracks for us,” team manager Beat Zehnder added – “But that’s what we thought last year as well. And then we dropped.”
