F1 | Fred Vasseur smiles despite Monza setback and points out Ferrari’s mistake
At the conclusion of the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, Fred Vasseur commented on Ferrari’s performance, which finished just outside the podium. From the free practice sessions, it was already clear that repeating the success of 2024 would be a difficult challenge. Indeed, Ferrari concluded the Monza Grand Prix narrowly missing the podium, but Fred Vasseur still believes there are several positive aspects to build on for the upcoming races.
The Team Principal’s words after the race
Interviewed after the race, the Team Principal of Ferrari commented on his team’s performance despite missing the podium. He said, “First of all, it was a great battle for both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. We probably wore the tires heavily in the opening laps and then struggled. Once the pace returned, we managed to extend the stint.”
He continued, “The track improved a lot over the course of the race, and tire degradation was low. We were all very similar in terms of pace, which made everything more difficult. Now we will carefully review the weekend and understand if anything could have been done differently. Compared to McLaren, we had one of our best weekends of the year, finishing just a few seconds behind. But Max Verstappen did something incredible.”
Fred Vasseur added, “Lewis Hamilton was very good because it is not easy to overtake when there are so many cars close together. Having two cars so similar helps us in terms of development and is positive for the team.” – the French manager concluded at the end of the Italian Grand Prix
