After Charles Leclerc’s decisive victory on the streets of Monte Carlo in Monaco, Ferrari takes on the role of watching what will happen at the 4.361-kilometre Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal, letting others make the first move. Frederic Vasseur, team principal of the Scuderia, is aware of the progress of the Maranello team but still speaks of a gap to be closed with those leading the two Formula 1 world championships.
On the track dedicated to Gilles Villeneuve, the French manager does not want to make proclamations but prefers to keep the pressure on Red Bull and Max Verstappen, the favorites in Canada, aware that the values, especially in the qualifying session, have become very close even with McLaren. The track has been resurfaced recently, so the bumps that could scare the RB20 may have been smoothed out to the advantage of the world champion team.
“We head to Canada riding the wave of enthusiasm from Charles’s success in his home race in Monaco, as we did after Carlos’s victory in Australia. The whole team is excited and has prepared thoroughly for this event: the Montreal circuit is quite different from the Principality, there are still some slow corners, but in general, there is much more speed, less need for aerodynamic load, and more overtaking opportunities.” – the French manager pointed out.
Fred Vasseur is convinced that the Maranello team has taken the right path to turn around a season that did not start in the best way. The latest updates may not have given everything the Ferrari technicians expected, but the quality leap was evident both at the Imola circuit and in Monte Carlo…
“However, I believe our approach as a team should not change: we must approach this weekend aware that we are moving in the right direction both technically and in terms of team harmony and the decisions to be made on track. The work done so far has allowed us to further reduce the gap that separates us from those leading the two world championships. The values, especially in qualifying, between us, McLaren, and Red Bull are extremely close, and we know that every little detail can make the difference.” – the Ferrari team principal concluded ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.
