Fred Vasseur has expressed his frustration at the continued speculation surrounding Christian Horner and Ferrari after the former Red Bull team principal publicly opened the door to working for the Maranello team. Speaking after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Vasseur made clear that the constant questions about his own position are becoming a distraction for both himself and the wider Ferrari organisation.
Christian Horner’s interview with The Times became a major talking point during the Baku weekend after the British manager discussed the possibility of joining Ferrari. The comments added another layer of attention around Vasseur’s role, despite Ferrari already having its team principal in place. The background to Horner’s interest can be explored in more detail in our report on Christian Horner opening the door to a potential Ferrari role.
Fred Vasseur frustrated by Christian Horner questions
Asked by The Race about the situation, Fred Vasseur admitted that the repeated speculation was affecting the atmosphere around the team.
“We are not working with great serenity. That applies to me, but also to all the members of the team,” Fred Vasseur began. “Fifty per cent of the questions from the media are about this topic. It is a little frustrating. We are fighting for second place in the championship, and that is what we should be talking about.”
Ferrari’s position in the Constructors’ Championship remains one of the main competitive priorities for the closing stages of the campaign, with seven races still to be completed on the 2026 Formula 1 calendar.
Vasseur: ‘Mr Horner is looking for a job’
The Ferrari team principal then offered an even more pointed response when discussing why the subject continues to dominate interviews.
“That is the situation, but it doesn’t depend on me. Mr Horner is looking for a job and everybody knows it, everywhere. But what can I do? I try to give my best to push the team and motivate it. But in every interview, 25 times a day, we come back to this subject.”
Fred Vasseur’s comments made his irritation clear. Rather than focusing on Ferrari’s results and the battle for second place in the Constructors’ Championship, he believes too much attention is being directed towards speculation surrounding his job.
Fred Vasseur gives ironic response to working with Horner
Fred Vasseur also stressed that his commitment to Ferrari has not changed despite the persistent discussion around his position: “Mine is the best job in the world. But that’s how it is. We still have seven races to go and I will give my maximum until the final corner.”
When asked whether he could potentially work alongside Christian Horner at Ferrari, the French manager ended with an ironic response: “You’ll have to ask my assistant…”
The remarks underline how strongly the Ferrari team principal wants attention to return to the sporting challenge facing the Scuderia rather than continued discussion over who might occupy his role in the future. Ferrari remains focused on maximising the final races of the season while continuing its fight for second place in the Constructors’ Championship.
