During media discussions last weekend, Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Frederic Vasseur shed light on one of the prominent weaknesses that has consistently impacted the SF-23 single-seater.
Many drivers expressed their concerns about the challenging driving conditions caused by the high wind speeds experienced at Silverstone in the British Grand Prix, with gusts reaching up to 8kph on race day. In response to feedback from Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, who noted that the SF-23 car felt excessively “peaky” and hindered their tire management, the Maranello team implemented updates specifically targeted at addressing the car’s inconsistencies in high-speed sections.
The Frenchman acknowledged that the windy conditions played a significant role in the overall performance, emphasizing this aspect during discussions with the media.
“It was the same as Miami, but the performance was better than Miami. We are focused on this [area] for the development to ensure the car is more stable. It looks like we struggled more than some others when we are in the [DRS] train, but it’s still a characteristic of the car.” – the Ferrari boss pointed out.
This year, the Scuderia has demonstrated greater competitiveness on circuits characterized by lower speeds, where drivers heavily depend on mechanical grip. The upcoming race at the Hungaroring track in Budapest therefore presents an opportunity for the Italian side to continue this trend and attempt to reduce the gap in the Constructors’ standings to Aston Martin and Mercedes.

When questioned about his perspective on whether the Hungarian Grand Prix track would be favorable for Ferrari, Frederic Vasseur provided his response.
“On paper, yes. It’s not just a matter of [the] package fitting with the track. The set-up you are doing, the preparation of the weekend, Friday [practice] is key. It will be probably even more [key] in Budapest because it’s so difficult to overtake.” – the French manager concluded.
