Ferrari: Simulator and Filming Day to Prepare for Austria
The general impression suggests that the weekend at the Red Bull Ring could be particularly favorable for Scuderia Ferrari, as they seek their first victory in this 2023 Formula One season, which has been lacking in satisfaction so far for the Tifosi and the Maranello team.
On the track that follows the profiles of Styria from a year ago, the last triumph of the Scuderia in Formula 1 came with Charles Leclerc, and the format will be Sprint, as in Baku, the only weekend this season where the SF-23 finished in the top three both on Saturday and Sunday, with the Monegasque driver even securing two pole positions in Azerbaijan.
In Canada, Ferrari spoiled a weekend that could have been much more satisfying, considering what was observed during Friday’s free practice and the race. A considerable effort was made in Maranello to accelerate the developments aimed at refining the new direction taken in terms of updates compared to the original SF-23 project, which is undergoing a transformation to seek a wider operating window compared to the extremely narrow one that turned the Maranello car into a “tire-devouring” single-seater on too many occasions.
The new features were tested yesterday during the filming day held in Fiorano, but team principal Frederic Vasseur emphasized that an extensive job was done in the factory simulator since there will only be 60 minutes of free practice before diving into qualifying on Friday afternoon. The weather could make everything even more challenging as rain is expected, especially on Friday and Saturday.

Words from Frederic Vasseur:
“After Canada, we now return to complete the European leg of the season taking in some of the classic venues on the calendar, starting with back-to-back races in Austria and England.
In Spielberg, we will tackle the second Sprint weekend of the year, which means that Charles, Carlos and the 18 other drivers all get just one hour of free practice before tackling qualifying. We have therefore spent plenty of time working hard in the factory and simulator to be as well prepared as possible.” – the French manager explained.
“Our main focus has been on ensuring that our drivers can get the most out of the SF-23 package, as indeed they were able to do in the race in Montreal. We’re looking to have a straightforward weekend all the way through from Friday to Sunday and if we manage it, then I’m sure we can bring home a good result.” – Scuderia Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur concluded, as reported by the Maranello team’s official website in view of the Austrian Grand Prix.
