In Singapore, McLaren gave a special gift to Fred Vasseur with the involvement of CEO Zak Brown to celebrate the excellent relationship with the Ferrari team principal.
The relationship between Frederic Vasseur and Zak Brown is certainly one of the most unique in the paddock, so the McLaren CEO wanted to give a special gift to the Ferrari team principal. Right after the Singapore Grand Prix, the French engineer visited Woking’s rivals and received a special item.
Zak Brown prepared a personalized McLaren polo shirt (usually worn by team members) for Frederic Vasseur, with the name “Fred” on it. The video of the gift handover quickly went viral on social media, with many amused reactions to the McLaren CEO’s gesture.
What made the moment even more humorous was the choice to reference a quote from Sebastian Vettel, which has become a symbol for Ferrari, but adapted for McLaren. “Everyone is a fan of McLaren even if they don’t say they are a fan of McLaren,” reads one social post. Then Zak Brown adds, “Welcome to the McLaren family, Fred!”
This isn’t the first time the two teams have shown their good relationship. In Miami, for example, after Lando Norris’s first Formula 1 victory, Frederic Vasseur personally visited McLaren’s hospitality to congratulate them. On that occasion, he was photographed wearing a McLaren cap to join in the celebrations.
In Monza, when Charles Leclerc won Ferrari’s home Grand Prix, Zak Brown returned the favor. The McLaren CEO went to the Ferrari garage and, just like his counterpart, wore a red cap to celebrate the victory. In short, despite an increasingly fierce battle on the track and daily controversies, Ferrari and McLaren know how to be rivals on the track without forgetting great respect and friendship.
