Frederic Vasseur has played down renewed speculation over his position at Ferrari, insisting that communication with the company’s leadership remains open and constructive despite the pressure that followed a disappointing Italian Grand Prix. The Ferrari team principal says he has no intention of wasting energy discussing rumours about his future when his focus remains on improving the team’s Formula 1 performance.
The scrutiny intensified after Ferrari’s difficult Monza weekend, which proved disappointing both in terms of execution and the management of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. Some reports suggested that Vasseur’s work had come under closer observation from Ferrari’s presidency, reviving questions about his position despite the contract renewal announced in July 2025.
Fred Vasseur dismisses Ferrari future rumours
Speaking to Motorsport, Frederic Vasseur made clear that he does not want to spend time discussing the speculation with the media. The French manager instead pointed to Ferrari’s two race victories and the team’s belief that further progress remains possible.
“There are people saying that I will be fired this weekend or that I was fired last night. We have won two races and we can win more, and we have clear ideas about how to take further steps forward, and that is where I focus my energy. Being under pressure is part of my job. It is not something I want to waste energy on.”
Pressure on the team principal increased following events at Monza, where the management of Ferrari’s two drivers also became a major talking point. Vasseur has subsequently called on Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton to take responsibility and protect the team as Ferrari works to move beyond the tensions generated during its home Grand Prix.
Vasseur responds to claims he is isolated at Ferrari
Frederic Vasseur also offered an indirect response to comments from former Ferrari president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, who had referred to the “loneliness of Vasseur”. The current team principal rejected the idea that he is operating without regular communication with Ferrari’s senior leadership.
“First of all, it is not for me to underline whether or not I have the support of the presidency, but the communication channel is constantly open in a constructive way,” Frederic Vasseur said.
He then highlighted the regular presence of Ferrari’s senior figures during Formula 1 race weekends as evidence of the connection between the racing operation and the company’s leadership in Maranello.
“Furthermore, at almost every race weekend we have had a representative of Maranello’s senior management with us, from John Elkann to Benedetto Vigna, as well as Piero Ferrari. I think that is a really good sign for everyone working in the team, both at the track and in Maranello.”
Ferrari looks to move on from a painful Monza weekend
The comments come as Ferrari attempts to put the Italian Grand Prix behind it. Beyond the performance of the SF-26, the handling of the situation between Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton became another source of criticism following the race. The two drivers have since cleared the air after their Monza tensions, while Vasseur has reiterated the principles he expects both drivers to follow.
For the Ferrari team principal, however, speculation surrounding his own future is not where he intends to direct his attention. Fred Vasseur’s message is that pressure comes with the position, while his priority remains the team’s sporting progress and the next steps Ferrari believes it can make during the remainder of the season
