Austrian former racing driver Franz Tost, the outgoing team principal of AlphaTauri, has given a lengthy interview in which he discusses the upcoming arrival of current Ferrari Sporting Director Laurent Mekies (in his case, a return) and Peter Bayer to the Faenza team.
Franz Tost’s recent comments:
“There were other names on the list,” reveals Franz Tost when asked about to the hiring of Laurent Mekies from Scuderia Ferrari. “There were confidential discussions. Oliver (Mintzlaff, editor’s note) and Helmut (Marko, editor’s note) took care of it,” – the Scuderia AlphaTauri team principal explained.
“I am more than happy with these two names because I have known them for a long time,” continued Franz Tost, expanding on the topic of Peter Bayer, as the former FIA Secretary General for Sport will also join AlphaTauri. Then Franz Tost continued by returning to the topic of Laurent Mekies, recounting an interesting story from when the Frenchman worked in Faenza: “I remember telling him back then, ‘Laurent, now you have to go to another team to learn something new, and then you’ll come back.’ I was just joking, but that’s exactly what happened. Fantastic!” – the Austrian said with a smile on his face.
