George Russell sprung a major shock by ending the final practice session for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the top of the timesheets.

The Mercedes driver snatched P1 from McLaren’s Lando Norris by an incredibly slim margin of just four thousandths of a second, closing out a chaotic FP3 at Yas Marina. The session was repeatedly disrupted, most notably by Lewis Hamilton’s heavy crash in his Ferrari and a bizarre pit-lane collision involving Kimi Antonelli and Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda.

Max Verstappen finished third for Red Bull, ending the session 0.180s behind Russell’s benchmark lap of 1:23.334. Oscar Piastri, in the second McLaren, could manage only fifth place, ending up 0.259s away from the leading time.
