Through our summary, we relive the highlights of FP1 of the Dutch GP, where Lando Norris emerged ahead of the two Mercedes.
Lando Norris tops FP1
FP1 at Zandvoort is officially in the books, a first session marked by extremely tricky conditions in the first 30-40 minutes, with rain and wind heavily impacting the teams’ activities, which makes it a largely unrepresentative session.
After a wet start, the track gradually dried out, allowing the drivers to switch from full wet tires to intermediates, and eventually even to softs in the final 10 minutes.
The best times were indeed recorded in the final part of the session, with Lando Norris stopping the clock at an already impressive 1:12.322, considering the track conditions, followed by Max Verstappen two-tenths behind, and Lewis Hamilton, who was nearly seven-tenths off.
Carlos Sainz took fourth place for Scuderia Ferrari, the only driver in the top 10 to set a time on medium tires, with George Russell in fifth position. An excellent performance also for Alexander Albon, who finished sixth with a Williams that introduced significant upgrades at Zandvoort, positioning himself as a contender to play a leading role this weekend.
Seventh place went to Oscar Piastri, followed closely by the two Haas cars of Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen. Guanyu Zhou rounded out the top ten, while rookie Robert Shwartzman, who took over Valtteri Bottas’ seat, finished in sixteenth place.
Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc only managed twelfth and thirteenth, respectively, with the Monegasque driver also setting his best time on mediums.
