Formula 1 fastest lap records and statistics
The ScuderiaFans F1 Fastest Laps & Race Performance Records database lets you explore Formula 1 fastest-lap statistics by season, driver and constructor, together with Ferrari records, race-by-race fastest laps and historical all-time rankings.
Select a Formula 1 season to see who recorded the most fastest laps, which constructors led the rankings, how often the race winner also set the fastest lap and which drivers produced the longest consecutive fastest-lap streaks. The All-time view combines the available historical World Championship data into a single Formula 1 fastest-lap database.
The statistics are based on recorded fastest laps from completed Formula 1 World Championship races with available fastest-lap information. Public visitors use compact locally generated ScuderiaFans data files, so changing season does not trigger an external Formula 1 database request.
What F1 fastest-lap statistics are available?
The tool provides several different ways to analyse Formula 1 fastest laps rather than displaying only a simple list of lap times.
- fastest laps by driver
- fastest laps by constructor
- fastest-lap share for the selected season or all-time period
- number of circuits where each driver recorded a fastest lap
- races where the fastest-lap driver also won the Grand Prix
- Ferrari fastest-lap totals
- Ferrari driver fastest-lap rankings
- longest consecutive fastest-lap streak
- race-by-race fastest laps for an individual season
- recent Formula 1 fastest laps in the All-time view
F1 fastest laps by driver
The F1 fastest-lap driver ranking shows how many recorded fastest laps each driver achieved within the selected period.
In a single-season view, this makes it easy to compare the drivers who have produced the strongest fastest-lap totals during the current or a previous Formula 1 season.
In the All-time view, the same ranking becomes a historical leaderboard covering the available Formula 1 World Championship fastest-lap data.
The table also shows how widely those fastest laps were distributed across different circuits and how many were achieved in races that the same driver won.
Who has the most fastest laps in Formula 1 history?
Select All-time from the season menu to compare drivers across Formula 1 history.
The ranking is based on the number of World Championship races in the processed historical database for which a fastest-lap driver is recorded.
This allows drivers from different eras to be compared by total fastest laps, although the figures should not be interpreted as a direct measure of outright driver speed because Formula 1 cars, tyres, regulations, race formats and competitive conditions have changed substantially over time.
F1 fastest laps by constructor
The F1 constructor fastest-lap ranking groups each recorded fastest lap by the constructor represented by the driver who set it.
This provides another perspective on Formula 1 performance by showing which teams have accumulated the most fastest laps during a season or across World Championship history.
Constructor names are kept historically distinct where appropriate. For example, historically separate Formula 1 constructors that shared similar commercial names are not automatically merged into one team record.
What does fastest-lap share mean?
Fastest-lap share represents the percentage of races with available fastest-lap data in the selected scope that were credited to a particular driver or constructor.
For example, if a driver sets the fastest lap in three of 20 races containing fastest-lap data, that driver’s fastest-lap share is 15%.
This figure is therefore different from a driver’s career strike rate. In All-time mode, the denominator is the full set of races with fastest-lap information included in the database, not simply the number of Grands Prix entered by that driver.
Fastest lap and race-winning performance
The tool also tracks races in which the driver credited with the fastest lap was the same driver who won the Grand Prix.
This provides useful context because a fastest lap can be achieved from many different race situations.
Sometimes the winner also has enough performance or tyre advantage to set the quickest lap of the race. In other cases, a driver further down the order may record the fastest lap after making a late pit stop for fresher tyres or running in clear air.
For this reason, a fastest lap should not automatically be interpreted as proof that the driver had the fastest car throughout the entire Grand Prix.
Why the driver with the fastest lap does not always win
A Formula 1 race is determined by total performance over the full Grand Prix distance, while the fastest lap represents only one lap.
Race strategy, tyre age, fuel load, traffic, pit-stop timing, weather, Safety Car periods and the amount of clear track available can all influence which driver records the fastest individual lap.
A driver can therefore set the fastest lap while finishing well outside the podium positions, while the race winner may never attempt a maximum-performance lap.
Ferrari fastest-lap records
The dedicated Ferrari fastest-lap record section shows how many fastest laps were set by Ferrari drivers during the selected season or across the available Formula 1 historical data.
The Ferrari driver ranking below it shows which drivers contributed those fastest laps while competing for the team.
This makes it possible to compare different Ferrari eras and drivers without mixing their Ferrari results with fastest laps they may have recorded for other constructors during their careers.
For a broader comparison between Ferrari and other Formula 1 teams, visit the Ferrari vs F1 Rivals statistics page.
Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc fastest laps
Season views can also be used to compare the fastest-lap contribution of Ferrari drivers such as Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.
The main driver table shows their overall fastest-lap totals for the selected season, while the Ferrari section isolates the fastest laps recorded specifically for Ferrari.
For a wider comparison between the two Ferrari drivers, including qualifying and race performance, visit the Charles Leclerc vs Lewis Hamilton F1 Head-to-Head page.
F1 fastest-lap streaks
The longest consecutive fastest-lap streak shows the largest number of successive World Championship races in which the same driver was credited with the fastest lap during the selected period.
This is different from simply counting total fastest laps. A driver can accumulate many fastest laps across a season or career without producing a long uninterrupted streak.
Streak statistics highlight periods in which one driver repeatedly produced the quickest individual race lap across consecutive events.
F1 fastest laps by race
When an individual season is selected, the F1 fastest laps by race table lists the recorded fastest lap for each completed Grand Prix in that season.
The table includes:
- Grand Prix
- circuit
- driver
- constructor
- fastest lap time
This allows users to move beyond season totals and see exactly where each fastest lap was achieved.
Recent Formula 1 fastest laps
In All-time mode, the race table becomes a Recent F1 fastest laps view.
This keeps the historical page useful without forcing the browser to render every fastest-lap result from Formula 1 history at once.
The all-time rankings still use the complete processed historical dataset, while the visible race-history table focuses on the most recent events.
What is an F1 fastest lap?
A fastest lap is the quickest individual lap officially recorded during a Formula 1 World Championship race.
It is different from pole position, the fastest qualifying lap and an outright circuit record.
The fastest race lap occurs during the Grand Prix itself, while qualifying times are set in a separate session under different conditions.
Fastest race lap vs qualifying lap
Formula 1 qualifying laps are normally faster than race laps because qualifying is focused on maximum single-lap performance.
During a Grand Prix, cars carry different fuel loads, use tyres of different ages and must manage race strategy over a much longer distance.
A qualifying lap should therefore not be compared directly with a fastest race lap as though they represented the same performance measurement.
For circuit-specific race and qualifying records, use the F1 Circuit Records & Statistics database.
Fastest lap vs F1 race pace
The fastest individual lap does not necessarily identify the driver with the strongest overall race pace.
A useful race-pace comparison normally requires several representative laps rather than one isolated maximum-performance lap.
For detailed lap-by-lap comparisons and race-pace analysis, visit the F1 Race Pace & Lap Time Comparison tool.
Fastest lap vs F1 top speed
A fastest lap and a top-speed figure measure different aspects of Formula 1 performance.
A driver can record a high straight-line speed without producing the fastest overall lap, while a car with lower peak speed may compensate through braking, cornering performance, traction or aerodynamic efficiency.
For speed-trap and straight-line comparisons, use the F1 Top Speed Comparison.
How circuit characteristics affect fastest laps
Fastest-lap performance is influenced by the characteristics of each Formula 1 circuit.
Low-downforce tracks place greater emphasis on straight-line efficiency, while high-downforce circuits reward cornering performance. Street circuits can place more importance on traction and confidence close to barriers, while tyre degradation can strongly influence the timing of a driver’s fastest lap at high-energy circuits.
The fastest lap from one circuit therefore cannot be used as a simple comparison with the lap time from another circuit.
Why fastest lap times cannot be compared directly between circuits
A lap time depends heavily on circuit length and layout.
A one-minute lap at a short circuit is not inherently more impressive than a longer lap at Spa-Francorchamps or another long venue.
Track surface, elevation, corner count, straight length and weather conditions also affect lap time.
For that reason, this tool ranks drivers by recorded fastest-lap achievements rather than attempting to compare raw lap times from unrelated circuits.
Why fastest laps cannot directly measure the fastest F1 car
A fastest race lap is useful performance data, but it is not a complete ranking of car speed.
The driver who sets the fastest lap may have fresher tyres, less fuel, more clear track or a different strategic objective than rivals.
Teams may also choose not to chase fastest lap if doing so could compromise tyre life, race position or another strategic priority.
The statistics therefore describe recorded race results rather than attempting to infer which car was objectively fastest over an entire Grand Prix weekend.
F1 fastest laps and reliability
A car must remain in competitive running long enough to have an opportunity to record a meaningful fastest lap.
Mechanical failures, collisions and other retirements can therefore affect fastest-lap opportunities as well as race results.
For current-season DNFs, mechanical failures, finish rates and retirement statistics, visit the F1 Reliability & DNF Statistics page.
Fastest laps and championship points
Fastest-lap statistics and championship standings measure different things.
A driver may record several fastest laps while scoring fewer championship points than a rival who consistently finishes higher in races.
Championship position depends on the applicable Formula 1 points system and race results rather than fastest-lap totals alone.
For current title permutations and remaining points, use the F1 Championship Points Calculator & Title Scenarios.
How tied fastest-lap rankings work
When two or more drivers or constructors have the same number of fastest laps, the database uses competition-style tied rankings.
For example, if two drivers share second place with the same total, both are displayed as T2. The following position reflects the number of competitors ahead of it.
This avoids creating a false ranking difference between competitors with identical fastest-lap totals.
Why some historical fastest-lap data is unavailable
Formula 1 timing information has become considerably more detailed over the history of the World Championship.
Older races do not always contain the same depth or consistency of timing information available for modern Grands Prix.
For that reason, the database explicitly counts races with fastest-lap data rather than assuming every completed World Championship race contains a usable fastest-lap record.
How historical constructor names are handled
Formula 1 constructors can change ownership, branding or identity over time.
The database uses the constructor identity recorded in the underlying historical Formula 1 data rather than automatically combining every team that may have had a commercial or organisational relationship with another constructor.
This is important for all-time rankings because similarly named constructors can represent historically distinct Formula 1 entries.
How the F1 fastest-lap database is processed
The Fastest Laps tool reuses the locally processed Formula 1 historical data already maintained for the ScuderiaFans circuit statistics database.
No additional historical archive needs to be downloaded merely to generate the fastest-lap rankings.
The administrator can rebuild the compact fastest-lap files locally after the underlying Formula 1 historical database has been updated.
Does the page make external Formula 1 data requests?
No.
Normal visitors do not contact F1DB, GitHub or another external Formula 1 database when opening the page or changing seasons.
The site serves compact local data prepared in advance.
This keeps the public page lightweight and avoids unnecessary external network requests.
Why the fastest-lap data is split by season
The complete Formula 1 historical database contains far more information than a visitor needs when viewing one season.
The public tool therefore uses a small index and separate local data files for individual seasons and the All-time view.
When a user selects a season, only the data required for that scope needs to be loaded rather than the entire Formula 1 historical dataset.
Share an F1 fastest-lap season
The Copy Season Link button creates a shareable URL for the selected season.
This allows another user to open the same statistical view directly.
Normal interaction keeps the main page URL clean, while shareable season variants are handled separately to avoid creating unnecessary duplicate indexable pages.
