‘Formula 1 needs a competitive Ferrari’ – Stefano Domenicali. Stefano Domenicali on Ferrari's difficult period.

Starting next January 5th, Formula One will have a new boss: Stefano Domenicali. The former president and CEO of Lamborghini will take over from the outgoing CEO of the Circus, Chase Carey, and will have the task of reviving the premier category of motoring subject to major criticism in recent times. Interviewed by the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, Stefano Domenicali spoke about the future of the top class by analyzing various issues.

“I think that for Formula One the drivers are the least of the problems. We have a young generation, very strong – said Domenicali – Different but very similar to the young people who have to become passionate. From that point of view we will have a very interesting championship. Professionals who will be able to make the most of the machines they have at their disposal”. – the former Ferrari boss explained.

Continuing the discussion on the future of Formula 1, he added: “Next year the rules are in the logic of continuity, in 2022 there will be a very important structural and strategic change of regulations. There is certainly the desire to look ahead, with a Formula One that can involve the constructors from a technical point of view and other great teams. Cost limits are there and have been set. They will be carried out even more.” – he explained.

Asked about the difficult situation at Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali added: “It would be wrong for me, in the role that I am about to have, to make judgments. But we need a Ferrari that is competitive again. I am convinced that the president and Mattia Binotto are lining up all the things that are necessary for this to happen as soon as possible. Formula One needs Ferrari, there is no doubt about this.” – Stefano Domenicali concluded.
