The engines have not even cooled down following the 2023 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix and there is already talk about the future editions at the Miami International Autodrome in Florida, USA.
The CEO of the Grand Prix, Tom Garfinkel, stated that a night race is an idea that is currently being evaluated in talks with Formula 1. By doing so, Miami would follow the example of Las Vegas, which will debut on November 18th with the night Grand Prix format.
“We have discussed this possibility,” Tom Garfinkel confirmed.
“Obviously, at this time of the year, the weather is a bit unpredictable. This year it was quite nice and the breezes helped a lot, but last year it was unseasonably hot. But there are many factors that impact this decision, such as Formula 1, television, and everything else. So, we have to weigh all these things. However, we are certainly open to this possibility.” – he added.
One of the factors that most opposes the possibility of Miami becoming a night race is its time zone compared to Europe, with a five-hour difference from London. This means that a night race would take place in the middle of the night in Europe and would have a strong impact on TV viewership.

Las Vegas, which is eight hours behind, organizes its night race on Saturday night, so that it takes place in the early hours of Sunday morning in Europe.
When asked if a night race in Miami could also be held on Saturday, Tom Garfinkel replied: “We are not able to make a decision at this time. We are discussing the possibility and how it would be.”
The Vice Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium and Managing Partner of the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix stated that all tickets for the this year’s event have been purchased and one of the main things he wanted to ensure was that the venue of the event found the right balance between the number of people present and the guarantee that the experience of those on track was not ruined.
“We are sold out. We probably could have sold 150,000 tickets a day based on demand and the space we have, but I want everyone to have a great experience. It’s hard to get people in and out, make sure there are no lines, not a lot of traffic and everything else.”
“We want to grow a little bit every year, improving more and more from an operational point of view,” he continued. “But we also want to make sure that people continue to have a good experience, so there are enough outlets, enough bathrooms. This was one of the reasons we doubled the width of the bridges, anticipating that the attendance could grow a little every year in the future and we would have the capacity to do so.” – Tom Garfinkel concluded.
