How are some of the Formula 1 drivers spending their holidays before returning to the track? Among the most popular destinations this year are Sardinia and Spain.
With only one week left before Formula 1 racing resumes, drivers are enjoying their well-deserved summer break. This year’s pause is slightly longer than usual, lasting more than twenty days. The break began after the Hungarian Grand Prix at the start of August and will end with the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort at the end of the month, giving the drivers plenty of time to recharge their batteries and return to competition refreshed.
So how are some of the main figures on the Formula 1 grid spending their free time? Once again, Sardinia has emerged as the favorite destination, becoming the backdrop for a couple of highly talked-about encounters that captured the attention of fans and media alike.
Sardinia holidays for Verstappen, Leclerc and more
The first of these encounters was between reigning world champion Max Verstappen and Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff — this time for real, after months of speculation linking the two. The second rumored meeting involved Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc and Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll. While there is no official photograph to confirm it, Charles Leclerc was spotted together with his manager Nicolas Todt and a member of the billionaire’s yacht staff, fueling curiosity about what discussions might have taken place.
Charles Leclerc began his break in Costa Smeralda and Porto Cervo, two of Sardinia’s most exclusive resorts, before moving on to Corsica and then to Saint-Tropez for his traditional family holiday.
Max Verstappen has also opted for a quieter family-oriented vacation. The four-time world champion is enjoying his time with partner Kelly Piquet, daughter of three-time world champion Nelson Piquet. Their family life has taken on new significance in recent months, as Kelly became a mother earlier this year.
Sardinia was also the chosen retreat for Mercedes driver George Russell, who has been spotted relaxing on his private yacht with his partner Carmen Montero Mundt.
Meanwhile, rising Italian star Andrea Kimi Antonelli, currently one of the most closely followed young talents in motorsport, experienced a small misadventure while on holiday in Costa Smeralda. The teenager reportedly ran out of fuel on a jet ski while having fun with friends, a light-hearted incident that added a touch of humor to the glamorous summer break.
Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris in Spain
Moving west, Spain has also proved a popular destination. Carlos Sainz has once again chosen Palma de Mallorca, where he traditionally spends the summer months with his family on their yacht. For the Spanish driver, these vacations are a family tradition and an important opportunity to enjoy quality time at home before tackling the challenges of the second half of the Formula 1 season.
Lando Norris, meanwhile, has opted for the nightlife and charm of Ibiza. The McLaren driver was seen with his girlfriend, Portuguese actress Margarida Corceiro, and a group of close friends. Also present was Formula 2 driver Gabriel Bortoleto, who joined the gathering with his family. The two young drivers enjoyed time together during an evening out, strengthening their bond off the track.
Lewis Hamilton in Greece
Finally, Lewis Hamilton has taken a different approach, opting for a more discreet and low-profile holiday in Greece. The seven-time world champion spent time with a small circle of friends, avoiding the spotlight and social media attention that usually surrounds him. For the Ferrari driver, this quieter style of vacation fits perfectly with his current focus on preparing for the upcoming challenges as the 2025 season continues.
