Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali admitted that the series could award bonus points for drivers who sweep ‘Sprint Qualifying’ weekends. The Saturday races, which are scheduled to take place at Silverstone, Monza and one other venue in the 2021 Formula One season, will award extra points to the top three finishers.
Former Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal and current CEO of Formula 1 Stefano Domenicali was interviewed by Italian daily newspaper ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’ that Formula 1 is taking in consideration whether to award extra bonus points to a driver who takes pole position and wins both the Sprint Qualifying race and the actual grand prix.
He said this format “can become the permanent way to run the most historic and iconic grand prix”.
