“We would be surprised if Red Bull brought a new chassis, we couldn’t afford it.” – in this way, last weekend at the end of the Belgian Grand Prix, Scuderia Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto underlined his surprise regarding the possibility that the Milton Keynes team could plans for such an expensive and substantial development in view of the coming weeks.
The Ferrari boss has repeatedly stressed since the start of the 2022 Formula 1 season that the FIA must do more to check that all teams are actually complying with the limits imposed by the budget cap and the prospect of such a huge development update on the part of Red Bull led the Ferrari team principal to emphasize once again a major aspect such as the budget cap and the need to make sure that everyone respects the financial rules.
Red Bull’s new and lighter chassis for the second part of the 2022 Formula 1 championship is a development that was also confirmed by Max Verstappen after the Belgian Grand Prix at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, while the Dutchman did not want to provide details regarding the weight reduction that would be provided by this update. In the Netherlands, however, both Christian Horner and Helmut Marko have denied that Red Bull plan to introduce such an update:
“I don’t know who is spreading these rumors, they certainly don’t come from our team“, Christian Horner said in a recent interview for Sky Sport Italia. In front of the Sky Sport Deutschland microphones, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko was even more adamant in denying the introduction of a lightweight chassis this season: “We now have enough financial experts to control everything. The use of a so-called lightweight chassis is not taken into consideration for the future and it is unlikely that we will produce a different chassis again”, the words of the Austrian consultant who therefore responded to Mattia Binotto’s fears.
