A significant increase has been recorded in the number of fans watching Formula 1 races live, with a +20% rise compared to 2024.
A golden era for Formula 1
Liberty Media has done an outstanding job in expanding the global fanbase of Formula 1, and the surge in popularity achieved by the pinnacle of motorsport during the years under American ownership is undeniable. The report published on Wednesday, March 4, by Nielsen Sports and reported by Reuters has clearly laid out the figures behind the remarkable global success currently enjoyed by Formula 1.
Staggering numbers
The overall Formula 1 audience has recorded a 6.8% increase compared to 2024 and now stands at the impressive figure of 1.83 billion total audience. This metric represents the cumulative total (not unique viewers) of people tuning in to each event to follow the performances of the most prestigious brands in motorsport.
The average audience per Grand Prix reached 76.1 million viewers, marking the highest figure recorded since 2020 and confirming the strong upward trajectory of the championship’s global reach.
At the same time, fans watching Formula 1 live are also on the rise: +19.8% for races and +22.8% for qualifying sessions. Formula 1 remains the undisputed pinnacle of motorsport, with an audience three times larger than its closest competitor, MotoGP – which is also owned by Liberty Media.
Finally, an important note regarding sponsors: their visibility over the course of a race weekend has increased by more than 90% since 2020, with nearly 600 brands featured during a single Formula 1 weekend in 2025, underlining the championship’s growing commercial strength and global appeal.
