The nominations for the 2026 Academy Awards have just been announced in Los Angeles, with the film F1 collecting several major nominations.
Formula 1 also makes its mark at the Oscars 2026, as the film F1 has received multiple nominations. At the final ceremony of the awards season, which is also the most glamorous and prestigious event of the year, the movie directed by Joseph Kosinski features Lewis Hamilton among its producers. Filmed between 2023 and 2024 during various Formula 1 Grands Prix, F1 has earned four Academy Award nominations.
Brad Pitt plays a former Formula 1 driver who returns to the Circus to mentor his young teammate, a role played by Damson Idris. An intense rivalry inevitably develops between the two. Following its breakout success in cinemas last June, when the film grossed more than 600 million dollars worldwide at the box office, ideas for a potential sequel are already being discussed, although it will not be produced anytime soon.
“Well, I think you can never say never,” Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali told Sky Sport. “We are working on a plan. It will not be done too soon because it needs to be digested.”
The film F1, starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, has accelerated the popularity of Formula 1 in North America even more than the Netflix docuseries Drive to Survive had already done. F1 has received four nominations at the Oscars 2026 in the categories of Best Picture, Best Film Editing, Best Sound, and Best Visual Effects.
Winning at least one of these statuettes will be far from easy. The competition, much like what happens on track, is fierce, with rivals such as Hamnet, Sentimental Value, Marty Supreme, and Una battaglia dopo l’altra.
The film had already picked up two nominations at the Golden Globe Awards in the categories of Best Original Score and Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, further confirming its impact during the awards season.
The 2026 Academy Awards ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on March 15, 2026.
