During the qualifying session for the 2023 Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix at the 7.004-kilometre Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Stavelot, Scuderia Ferrari showed flashes of brilliance in certain sectors, giving hope to the fans that the Maranelo team could achieve a near miracle.
In the end, Charles Leclerc will still start from pole position on Sunday in Belgium, but only due to Max Verstappen’s penalty, as the latter finished his final lap with an 8-tenth gap to the second-placed driver. The superiority of the Red Bull team with its driver is overwhelming, and this has somewhat demoralized everyone. However, Italian former racing driver and the 2012 GP2 Series champion Davide Valsecchi, who currently works for Sky Sport Italy, wanted to highlight the growth of the Maranello team, which, despite everything, managed to put the SF-23 car ahead of its direct rivals.
“Ferrari flew compared to the usual. They were far behind he lap time set by Max Verstappen, but compared to the competition, they were efficient, especially considering the recent results. They were strong in all sectors, competitive in every part. Apart from Max Verstappen, all the others were beaten by the Ferrari duo. Among them, the drivers have a two-tenths gap, typical of Charles Leclerc’s performance,” said the former driver.
