Two double podium finishes and once race win after the first two rounds of the 2022 Formula 1 season. Ferrari’s performance in this start of the season has been impressive and long-awaited, as the Italian side has been struggling to get back on top for the last two years. Ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, which takes place next weekend at the Albert Park Circuit, the Maranello team is leading in both world rankings – drivers and constructors – and the impression is that the F1-75 car is in fact able to challenge Red Bull on any type of track, as the two rivals are set to continue their battle in Melbourne, with Mercedes expected to remain behind them for now.
A pecking order that is therefore totally overturned compared to the recent past, when the Brackley team was always on top. This is thanks to the new rules and technical regulations which have mixed up the forces on the grid as Formula 1 entered its new era: “Mercedes would be the first to admit they didn’t do well. Ferrari, on the other hand, did an excellent job of getting back up and being right there on top with Red Bull.” – said Robert Smedley, who for a long time was the track engineer of Felipe Massa during their time with Scuderia Ferrari.
Today the British automotive engineer who works for the organizers of Formula One, in the role of technical consultant. Rob Smedley has analyzed this start of the championship, while at the same time warning that during the next GPs the values could change again: “I expect this to change now more than in any other year, as everyone can find a great deal of performance in many different areas – continued the British engineer – the development phase of the cars is at such an early stage that the cars will change significantly from the first race to the final one. There will be an extremely strong development direction on those cars.” – the former Scuderia Ferrari engineer concluded.
