Former Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel reveals what could still bring him back to Formula 1

Sebastian Vettel, Scuderia Ferrari

Sebastian Vettel has left the door open to a future return to Formula 1 in a different role, although the four-time world champion is not actively looking for a job in the paddock. Having retired from racing after the 2022 season, the German continues to follow the championship closely and remains interested in where the sport is heading.

The German addressed the possibility of becoming involved in Formula 1 again during an appearance on the BBC’s Chequered Flag podcast. Rather than planning an imminent comeback, he indicated that he would be prepared to consider an appropriate opportunity if one emerged naturally in the future.

Sebastian Vettel is not actively seeking an F1 return

The former driver made clear that he is not approaching Formula 1 teams or promoting himself for a position. Sebastian Vettel explained that he currently prefers observing developments from outside the paddock and intends to continue following the championship with considerable interest.

That position leaves an important distinction between being open to a future Formula 1 role and actively pursuing one. Vettel is not preparing a return or searching for a paddock position, but neither does he want to rule out possibilities that could arise later.

His continuing interest in the championship is consistent with the attention he has previously given to the direction of Formula 1 and its regulations. ScuderiaFans has also followed Sebastian Vettel’s views on major F1 regulation changes during his racing career.

New F1 regulations and sustainability remain important to Vettel

Among the subjects attracting Vettel’s attention are Formula 1’s new regulations and the championship’s broader approach to sustainability. The four-time world champion has continued to monitor both areas since stepping away from competition.

During the same podcast appearance, Sebastian Vettel emphasised that the future of Formula 1 remains important to him. He indicated particular interest in the new rules, possible changes to the championship and the wider direction in which the sport is developing.

For now, that interest does not translate into plans for an immediate return. Vettel appears comfortable watching Formula 1 from outside while maintaining a close connection with a championship that defined his racing career.

His comments nevertheless mean retirement from driving has not necessarily ended every possibility of future involvement. Should the right opportunity emerge, the German remains willing to consider what a new Formula 1 role might look like rather than closing that chapter permanently.
