Despite the fact that Mattia Binotto is no longer the principal of the Scuderia Ferrari team, he is still an active presence in the world of Formula 1. The Italian manager is currently under a period of gardening leave (a period of mandatory pause imposed by the FIA during which an employee of a team is not able to take on an active role at a rival team in order not to transfer technical knowledge and industrial secrets), but is is allowed to receive offers for when this gardening leave period will end.
“I’m sure that Mattia Binotto, after the gardening period, will be able to stay in Formula 1. I am absolutely certain that he has had a proposal from Audi to lead the Formula One team that will be on the grid in the near future.” – this is the view of Italian journalist Leo Turrini, a Formula 1 expert and Ferrari insider.
During a recent interview for the Pit Talk Radio programme, Leo Turrini therefore expressed his confidence that Mattia Binotto will return in the Formula 1 paddock to lead Audi in a few years.
We recall that Audi has recently formalized the purchase of a minority stake in the Sauber team – currently branded Alfa Romeo and powered by Ferrari – and that starting with the 2026 Formula 1 championship it has been registered in the FIA list as a power unit manufacturer together with Alpine, Ferrari, Mercedes, Honda and Ford.
