Carlos Sainz should not have been ‘sacrificed’
Carlos Sainz has several admirers, including Giancarlo Minardi, who confirmed in the past that he had recommended the Spaniard to the Ferrari Driver Academy. Carlos Sainz arrived in Maranello in 2021, and since 2022 onwards, he has collected a victory each Formula One season, including 2024, with still 21 races on the calendar to add to his tally, starting in Melbourne at his second race as an unemployed driver, given that in Saudi Arabia he only participated in free practice before having to make room for Ferrari junior Oliver Bearman due to appendicitis.
Interviewed by the Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Giancarlo Minardi reiterated that Carlos Sainz’s victory in the Australian Grand Prix at the Albert Park circuit only increases regrets over a transfer dynamic that, according to the former team manager, will not bring great benefits to Scuderia Ferrari, at least in terms of performance from the drivers’ side: “It’s not fair that Carlos Sainz’s natural talent is not recognized just because he’s alongside Charles Leclerc, who has innate skills – Giancarlo Minardi stated, as reported by the Italian media – he has nothing to envy from the best, he is among the six drivers who can aspire to the championship with the right car, namely Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz, Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri and George Russell.” – he pointed out.
A list in which Lewis Hamilton is absent from: “I’ve always preferred young drivers throughout my life. The only thing Lewis Hamilton can do is bring along some valuable technicians.” An opinion in line with that expressed by former Ferrari sporting director Cesare Fiorio.
