Italian businessman and former Renault Formula One boss Flavio Briatore has criticized the Maranello team after the start of the 2019 Formula One season, admitting he is not surprised that Scuderia Ferrari is once again struggling to beat rivals Mercedes in. The Italian side began 2019 F1 championship year with many believing it has the fastest car, but so far it is Mercedes with three consecutive one-twos.
“What’s wrong with Ferrari? It’s nothing new,” former Renault boss Flavio Briatore said, as reported by the Italian broadcaster La 7 – “The car has been slow for eight years,” the Italian added.
Flavio Briatore warned that Scuderia Ferrari has taken a risk by appointing Mattia Binotto, also the team’s “excellent” technical director, as the new team principal for 2019: “With Binotto, they run the risk of not having a fully dedicated boss and also becoming lost in the technical area.” – he explained, before pointing out that in terms of speed the situation has not improved for the Maranello team: “Nothing has changed compared to last year. They have not reduced the gaps to Mercedes. The usual repertoire of excuses already started in the first race. Mercedes will continue to dominate.” – Flavio Briatore concluded, as reported by the Italian media earlier today.
