Virtual FIA–drivers meeting before April 20 to discuss regulation changes
The world of Formula 1 continues to use the enforced break from racing — caused by the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East — to reflect on possible changes to the new technical regulations ahead of the return to action in Miami at the beginning of May.
The key date is April 20, when a formal vote will take place to decide whether to approve specific regulatory adjustments. However, discussions are already well underway. On April 9, the FIA held the first in a series of meetings involving team technical experts and power unit manufacturers.
That initial online meeting resulted only in a general commitment “to introduce changes to energy management,” without detailing the exact measures that could be implemented.
Final opportunity for the drivers
In this process, the drivers are also determined to make their voices heard, as previously highlighted by GPDA president Alexander Wurz. Before the April 20 vote, which will involve team principals, the FIA plans to present the outcome of the latest technical discussions directly to the drivers.
This consultation will also take place online, given the absence of race weekends during this period.
It could represent the most significant opportunity for the drivers to influence the direction of the regulations — provided they can present a united front, not only on what changes should be made, but also on how those changes should be implemented.
Max Verstappen, Lando Norris and their fellow drivers will therefore have a crucial chance to express their concerns and propose their own ideas regarding the future of the regulations.
