Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris have found themselves under the FIA microscope following the events of Thursday at the Monaco Grand Prix. The two drivers, who were key figures in Thursday’s official press conference, have been summoned by the stewards for an alleged breach of the sporting regulations regarding time management. The matter will be officially addressed on Friday morning.
FIA summons Leclerc and Norris after press conference delay
According to official FIA documents, both drivers reportedly arrived late to Thursday’s press conference, which is a mandatory media obligation for selected drivers. In the official document published late in the afternoon, the stewards summoned Charles Leclerc along with a Ferrari team representative for 10:00 AM on Friday. Meanwhile, Lando Norris’s hearing is scheduled shortly after, at 10:10 AM. The summons points to an alleged breach of Article B10.1.1.a of the Formula 1 Sporting Regulations, which governs participation in official media and promotional commitments.
In similar situations, the FIA generally tends to issue financial penalties, barring any unique circumstances or repeat offenses. The hearing will therefore serve to reconstruct exactly what caused the delay and to check for any mitigating factors before the stewards hand down their final decision.
This late-night drama adds an unexpected hurdle for Leclerc and Norris as they prepare to hit the track for the opening practice sessions. While a hefty fine is the most probable outcome, both Ferrari and McLaren will want to put this administrative distraction behind them quickly to focus entirely on the tight battle for pole position in the streets of Monte Carlo.
