Only a warning
The investigation by the stewards into the behavior of Ferrari and Aston Martin during FP2 in Suzuka has resulted in almost nothing. The two teams were accused of not following the guidelines provided by the Race Director regarding the entry of cars into the pit lane after exiting their respective garages. In Ferrari’s case, the behavior of Lewis Hamilton was under review, and for Aston Martin, that of Lance Stroll.
Both drivers, while in the so-called ‘working lane’ – the innermost line of the pit lane – overtook several cars that were in the ‘fast lane’ before heading to the area designated for practice starts. The stewards issued only a warning to both, assigning it to both the drivers and the teams.
This is the mildest form of action possible from the stewards, even less severe than a reprimand. The risk of a fine was therefore avoided by the two teams, who will nonetheless need to pay more attention to these details tomorrow, when it’s time to hit the track for the qualifying session.
