Formula 1 heads to Turkey for round 16 of the 2021 Formula 1 calendar, as Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen are split by just two points with seven rounds left until the end of the season. The battle on the track is tight, as well as the one off the track in the political forums. Red Bull, in fact, after the leap in performance of the Mercedes power unit, especially in the acceleration phase, presented a complaint to the FIA, which was also supported by: a request for clarification regarding an aspect that the GPS data analyzed by Red Bull, but also by the Maranello team, that had highlighted raising suspicions.
According to sources within the team led by Christian Horner and Helmut Marko, this complaint presented by Red Bull after a joint analysis with Scuderia Ferrari, led to nothing as reported by the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport. The FIA therefore rejected the protest of Red Bull Racing and the Maranello team, thus sweeping away the doubts about the regularity of the work done by the Mercedes technicians, in particular the engineers stationed in the Brixworth headquarters.
Lewis Hamilton will therefore not have to fear a drop in performance from his power unit, even if with seven grands prix still to go until the end of the 2021 Formula One championship, it is very likely that the Mercedes driver will have to face a penalty on the starting grid due to the introduction of a fourth power unit as already done my Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen in the Russian Grand Prix.
