
FIA appoints Jean-Frédéric Thomas from Geneva as new chief financial officer
The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has announced the appointment of a new executive to its governance team. For the role of Chief Financial Officer, the FIA has selected Jean-Frédéric Thomas from the Swiss financial sector. Thomas brings 25 years of experience in senior executive roles and was most recently the CFO at Groupe M3 in Geneva.
The announcement was made by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who was recently re-elected, through the organization’s official channels. He stated that the FIA is pleased to welcome Jean-Frédéric Thomas to the team, highlighting that the organization has recently restored solid financial stability after years of losses and that Thomas’s extensive leadership experience in major international organizations will be invaluable for its ongoing strengthening process.
Jean-Frédéric Thomas, who will officially take up the role on February 1, 2026, expressed his enthusiasm, saying he is honored to join the FIA during a period of renewed financial stability and ambition. He added that he looks forward to contributing to the organization’s mission and supporting its next phase of financial and operational development.
In his role, Jean-Frédéric Thomas will oversee financial governance, budgeting, risk management, and long-term financial planning for all of the FIA’s global operations. He will report directly to FIA Director General Alberto Villareal, who commented with satisfaction that Jean-Frédéric will be a valuable asset to the executive team, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise. Alberto Villareal expressed eagerness to work with Thomas as they continue driving the transformation of the entire FIA organization.
This high-level hire signals continued evolution at the FIA top table, building on recent efforts to enhance transparency and efficiency following financial challenges in prior years.
