FIA considers controversial 2026 F1 fix that could make cars slower and harder to drive. F1’s 2026 regulations face growing debate .

Despite the FIA taking steps to mitigate the issues of the new regulations, drivers and engineers continue to call for more significant changes that would revise the balance between thermal power and electric power. The FIA will not take decisive action on this matter before 2028.

Reducing grip to reduce corner speed: a halfway solution?

An in-season adjustment that would favour battery recharging: making the cars less stable in corners in order to force drivers to brake harder.

The risks of this approach? Making the cars slower and harder to drive could appear, in the eyes of fans, less spectacular. Furthermore, as highlighted by Pirelli, reducing aerodynamics would lead to lower tyre stress but would completely change the balance of the car.

A technical paradox that would increase braking distances at the expense of top speed — a principle in this sport that is now increasingly debated.
